BRÒKEN is Vassilis Tzavaras’ new recording, played entirely on an old english piano and therefore edited and subtly processed, to make a 7-part continuous program of short solo improvisations. The semi-sparse arrangements throughout the album provide space for rays of tenderness to emit between the sonic events, although minimalism, as the key characteristic of this work, is not overused nor “used”. The inherent harmonies of BRÒKEN, outlined by diligently dropped high piano keys, by mechanical noise of the instrument and by a discreet underlayed sonic environment make for a seemingly libertine listening experience, while in Tzavaras own words, “this music has reminiscent nature”.
Apart from BRÒKEN, Vassilis Tzavaras has contributed to Triple Bath on two more releases: 4+1 – LIVE AT SFENDONI (2010) and Silent Move – IN SEVEN PARTS (2014).
